Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common condition that affects approximately half of all men between the ages of 51 and 60. As the prostate grows with age, it can start to squeeze the urethra and interfere with daily activities. It’s usually not a serious health condition; instead it’s more annoying than anything. Symptoms can include:
- Unable to start and stop urine stream

What is the UroLift® System?
For patients who want an alternative to drug therapy or surgery, there’s UroLift®. This is a new way to treat BPH, more commonly known as enlarged prostate. During the UroLift® procedure, small, permanent implants are inserted without cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue. The implants help lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue so it’s out of the way and no longer blocks the urethra. This technique relieves pressure on the urethra and allows better flow when urinating. Best of all, there is less downtime for patients.
Research shows that UroLift® is safe and effective. The goal is to relieve urinary symptoms so patients can get back to living life without concern.

Studies show that treatment with UroLift® offers a similar level of symptom relief as other BPH procedures and it is very safe.
What are the Side Effects of Treatment?
The common side effects, which include some blood in the urine, painful urination, urgency, pelvic ache, and possibly some urge incontinence, usually fade in four weeks or less.
